Start with the source of the water
Sewer backup, groundwater, surface runoff, a plumbing leak and foundation seepage can look similar after the fact. The correct repair depends on which path the water followed.
Review the complete system
Look at floor drains, sump equipment, backwater-valve access, downspouts, grading, foundation walls and the history of the private sewer lateral. One product does not solve every cause of flooding.
Prepare before storm season
Test pumps and alarms, keep discharge routes open, maintain accessible backwater valves and document any recurring drain problems. Early inspection usually provides more options than an emergency repair.
When to call a plumber
Call when you have had a sewer backup, recurring slow drains, water in the sump pit, unexplained floor-drain odour, seepage after rain or uncertainty about rebate-eligible work.
